Three reasons to add African print to your wardrobe

I really feel like everyone has at least one item in their closet’s that is African print, at least a head-wrap. If you don’t have any yet here are three reasons why you should get some today.

  1. Various prints - There are so many variations of African wax fabric that shopping for the right print can take hours! With the variety I believe that there is a print for everyone, bright colors, muted tones and even sequins and rhinestones. I went fabric shopping during my trip in Benin and it took me so long just to pick out three patterns, the options where endless but the styles pictured are the patterns I decided on.

  2. It’s for everyone - you don’t have to be African to wear African print, anyone can indulge. A friend asked me once is wearing African print was a form of appropriating the culture, in my opinion no so long are you are no wear certain ceremonial costumes. Fashion is fashion, so support the businesses below for your next African print outfit.

  3. Expand your fashion palette - a great closet has a little bit of everything so after you buy mainstream prints like stripes, polka dots and cheetah add some pretty African prints in the mix.

Now that we’ve covered that, how can you start shopping?!

Most of my African clothes are actually custom made. I purchase fabric from suppliers and take them to a seamstress. This is the best way to fill your closet with the latest prints because African prints typically doesn’t stretch so a precise fit is crucial.

Getting something custom made can be time consuming but there are plenty of online retailers that have amazing offerings. Here is a quick list so you can get shopping now.
